In this guide, you'll learn how to terminate a contract using the updated process. You can either terminate immediately or schedule a termination for a future date.
-
Go to the Contracts section and select Contract List.
-
Search for the contract you want to terminate.
-
Click on End contract from the Actions menu.
Alternatively, you can also end a contract from the Worker Summary page.
You will need to select a reason for termination. The options vary depending on the contract type:
Termination Reasons:
-
Termination with cause
-
Misconduct
-
Act of dishonesty
-
Breach of agreement
-
-
Termination without cause
-
Termination by worker
Contract-Specific Rules:
-
You Sign Contracts: No restrictions.
-
Ontop Sign Contracts: If terminating without cause, you must provide at least 15 days' notice before the termination date, as per the contract.
-
Contractor Pro Contracts: No notice period is required.
Once the termination reason is selected, choose the date when the contract should end. The allowed date selection varies by contract type:
-
You Sign Contracts: Can be ended up to 30 days in the past but no earlier.
-
Ontop Sign Contracts:
-
Can be ended up to 3 days in the past.
-
If termination is without cause, the end date must be at least 15 days in the future.
-
-
Contractor Pro Contracts:
-
Can be ended up to 3 days in the past.
-
⚠ Note: The contract cannot be ended before the start date or after the contract's pre-determined end date.
Next, select when the worker will be notified of the termination.
-
You Sign Contracts: You can choose to skip the Ontop notification by clicking "Continue without notifying"—sending the termination letter is your responsibility.
-
Ontop Sign & Contractor Pro Contracts: The notification is mandatory and will be sent automatically by Ontop at the selected date and time. The worker will receive an email with a termination letter in PDF format.
Time Zone Considerations:
-
Notifications are scheduled in UTC/GMT +0 (London time).
-
If there are no available notification slots in the user's time zone, the notification will be sent immediately.
Confirmation & Processing
-
If the contract ends immediately, you will see a confirmation modal.
-
If the contract is scheduled for a future termination, the contract remains active until the selected end date at 23:59 UTC/GMT +0.
-
If there is an error in processing, an error message will be displayed.
Invoicing After Termination
-
Legacy Experience: All pending invoices will be deleted except for the one with the nearest payment date.
-
Ontop+ Experience: Clients can still pay a worker up to 30 days after termination. After 30 days, the worker will no longer appear in payment suggestions.
Admin View (Support Agents)
-
Support agents can terminate contracts via the Client Summary or Contract Summary.
-
The notification and termination letter are not sent, but the worker still receives an email confirming contract termination.
-
Agents can select any termination date without restrictions.
Can I reactivate a contract that has already ended?
No, before the contract ends, the user can extend it by creating an amendment that postpones the end date, and it needs to be signed by both parties before the original end date arrives. If the contract is already ended, the user can’t reactivate it. They can, however, use the duplication feature to create a new one exactly the same.
